About Care Kopila

Care Kopila was formed in the winter of 2003 by a group of people who got together to think of ways in which they could play a role in getting working class children into education. The broad aim of the Care Kopila is to develop and implement a charitable program to provide funding for working children to achieve a basic education. The primary focus of our work is to support of the group is children of migrant workers who have lost their lives through working abroad. We believe that a small contribution by ordinary people is better than big talk by others. To achieve this we have committed a percentage of our income to establish a fund to carry out this charitable work.

History Of Care Kopila

In 1997 Manju Thapa, a young trade unionist who has visited the home of Sunil Maharjan. Sunil died in 1993 while working in Korea. His family was left with no income and no compensation. Without support Sunil’s wife was unable to provide the basics in life for her children and she asks Manju to help her get her daughter, Sunila, in her education. Since 1999 she is supporting her education.

In Nepal here are thousands of unable families like Sunila and they can not afford education for their children. Manju shared the story of Sunila with friends and, over tea, an idea about making personal sacrifice to reach more children was made based on the belief that as human beings we are responsible for each other. In a post revolution country the growth of a new generation of capable and responsible citizens is paramount for long lasting peace. Care Kopila was formed in the winter of 2003 by a group of people who got together to think of ways in which they could pay a role in helping working children. The broad aim of the Care Kopila is to develop and implement a charitable program to get child workers into education for the first time.
