Background:

Care Kopila supports Sunila Maharjan, the daughter of Sunil Maharjan who lost his life in Korea. She is the first girl to support education and because of her case the Care Kopila was established in 2003. Sunila's father went to Korea in a dream of providing better life to their children. Sunila was not born when her father died in Korea. After her father's death only one source of their income was blocked and her mother's hard work was not enough even to solve their hand to mouth problem.

Sunila, a sharp-minded girl and wants to be a doctor in future. "Educational Support of Care Kopila makes remarkable changes in her life" – says Sunila's mother. "It was almost impossible for my daughter to go to school if there is no help." Now she is going to admit collage in this year. She want to be a doctor in future.

Background:

Nirmaya, the eldest child of Krishna and Shanti was born on 1993 in Dhading. Nirmaya's father was a driver who was suffered from T.B. and died in 2004. Nirmaya is only the supporter of her family after her father's death when she was 7 years of old with the help of local community her mother able to establish one small teashop. Nirmaya has to take care her small siblings and also has to work She has four members in her family. All of them are working as labor (stone quarry) at the bank of the river in Mahadev Besi. Poor mother has big responsibilities to take care her children alone. So Nirmaya, her brother and sister help their mother in household works and to earn money.

She is very intelligent and would like to be a doctor. But the main problem is finance. Her mother is not able to pay school fees. Now her mother also starts teashop.In stone quarry when she gets leisure time. Earning of teashop is not enough for Nirmaya's family to solve their hand to mouth problem. "Nirmaya wants to go to school but I could not send her because of my poor economic condition" - Nirmaya's mother says. She adds - "She is the board firstin her school. Now she is studies grade eight "Nirmaya came in contact with Care Kopila and she is helped by Care Kopila for her study since 2003

Background:

Bhagabati Lama, 14, a permanent residential of Nuwakot the North West hill area from Kathmandu was migrated at Dhading with her family. Her family started to work on stone-quarry in Dhading. Bhagwati is talent and hard working girl, who lost her father when she was six years old. Her father married with another woman and left home. Still they don't know where are their father. Now there are four members in her family. Mother looks after in a tea shop and the children are working as labor (stone quarry) at the bank of the river in Mahadev Besi. Their financial status is very low.

A sharp-minded girl Bhagabati who passed grade six in first division. Bhagabati came in contact with Care Kopila since 2003. Now, Bhagabai is very happy with the help of Care Kopila for getting chance to continue her study. Bhagwati wants to be a doctor in future. If she get chance to continue her study, one day she will be a good doctor.

Background:

Sagarika is eleven years old hardworking girl who stayed with her father (Birendra), mother (Shrijana), and brother. She is born handicapped. She does not have fingers in right hand. The whole family members are working as labor (stone quarry) at the bank of the river in Mahadev Besi.

It is very hard to run their lives because of low-income source. Hardly one person gets Rs.300 in a month. Sagarika wants to be a teacher in future and working very hard. Even being handicapped, she gives her time for study and also earns money to run her family. Nowadays her parents open a small teashop.

Background:

Binju B.K. is nine years old and study in grade four. Binju's father was a carpenter. He was died by a storm in 2005. Her mother is working in another's field. She gets only Rs.60 in a day. She does not have any property. It is very difficult to run their life. Sometimes there is no food also.

Binju's uncle gives a small land and makes a hut for them. She is growing up by the hand of her grand parents because her mother is busy whole day for earning money. She is very intelligent girl. Even though she is from low cast so-called untouchable cast (Dalit) and has great economic problems, she wants to be a doctor and wants to serve other.

Background:

Samel Rai is a 12 years old boy. He is from Eastern part of Nepal and one of the children labor in stone quarry at Chisang Khola in Moramg district. He has big family members and all are working together at riverside. Samel's one eye is damage and can't able to see. He lost his eye by an accident when he was making gribble. Because of the lack of money he couldn't able to treatment and lost one eye. His father was a drunkard and suffering from paralytic. Now he becomes a beggar. Samel's mother can't offer her children expenses.

Shamal also felt sorry to see his family working hard. He says, he would do his better if he gets any help for his study, He is very good student.

Chandrakala is from Tharu community. Her family has no land and is working as labor. They don't have enough money to run their life. Their daily wages is only Rs.70-75 per day. Chandrakala is very hard working and talent girl. She is working as a domestic helper. She can read if she gets support.

Background:

It is our pleasure to say that Parbati is a good student of her school, Parbati has recently passed SLC in 2007, TinThana in Kathmandu. In 2004 she was confusing to quit or continue her study. Because her family was unable to support her she lives with relatives who are unable to pay for her schooling. Parbati has been able to pass to grade nine if she gets financial support she can pass the iron gate in her school life. She is very good in class.

She is from a so-called untouchable cast and wants to be an educated girl to change the society.

Parbati explored all possible options to continue her study. Finally, Parbati came into contact with Care Kopila and she was admitted in the school. Now, Parbati is very happy with the help of Care Kopila for getting the chance to continue her study. Now she is joining collage. Currently she is studying social science.

Background:

Parkash is eight years old and study in class two. He is belongs to untouchable family. His family is working in agriculture field. He has 10 years brother who has been working as a child domestic labour at hotel in Bhairahawa. His family is occupying government land. No job, No house sometimes his mother work at field and bring some food for him.

The villager gives some rice and his mother works for his neighbor's house. Sometimes she gets seasonal woks at that time they have good time otherwise they have No work, no rice and surviving in very poor conditions as a whole even she can not buy 1 rupee of pencil for her son. They have not enough cloth also. Care Kopila is providing scholarship from 2006

Background:

Bal Ram is eight years old and studying in class three. He belongs to Tharu community. Since 2001, his father has been sent to jail for 14 years. His mother and sisters are working as construction workers but they have a big number of family members. They all are working in wage based or seasonal works. So hardly they can get per day 65-70 Nrs. It is not sufficient money and sometimes they have no job. It’s very hard to survive all together. He is also working neighbor's house and goes to school but in this year he wants to stop his study and way to work with his brother.

His mother came to request us to provide support for his study and we found that Bal Ram is one of the most talented student of the school and we providing scholarship from 2006 and we are continuing support to him for further study.

 

Care Kopila working with Tharu Community

Care Kopila has been working on various area supporting the education of the labour child and child from the minority group. This year (2008), Care Kopila has taken an initiative to work with the tharu community from in Nawalparasi District, providing support for education of the Tharu minority.
