Proposal for School building
Shree Janata Primary School, Morang

Location: Morang is situated an eastern part of Nepal.

Target Group: Working Children

Main Goal: To create good and sustainable education provision for working children

About the school:

In this area of Morang called Chisang Khola there are more than 200 cottages housing 1200 people working in stone quarries. Of these 1200 there are a percentage of child workers. Through forming a union the adults were able to negotiate leave with the employers to provide and opportunity for primary education for their children.

In 1997 a basic education facility was built. However, as you can see from these pictures the facilities are extremely basic and have not been maintained. This is due to the lack of capacity of the local community to pay adequate school fees or maintenance.

The school has three classrooms and provides education for grades one to three. When the school was built there were 70 students but now there are 200 children studying in this school.

There is no drinking water for the children nor any toilets.  There are two teachers providing support but a large part of their time is given voluntarily.

The immediate needs of the school are:

With this school, Care Kopila is approaching all supporters to commit the necessary funds to give these 200 children the chance to achieve their primary education. Any contribution is welcomed.

Please join us in providing support for the needy children of Nepal.
